Lafert Group's permanent magnet synchronous motors offer IE5 and IE6 energy efficiency and combine the advantages of asynchronous and servo technologies.

HP Axial Series / An axially integrated package in which a synchronous motor with IE5 Ultra Premium Efficiency is combined with a variable frequency drive in a single body. The drive system reaches IES2 efficiency level.

The package combines the electrical design of brushless servo motors with the mechanical design of asynchronous motors. This increases power per unit of volume and allows size and weight reductions of up to 50%.

The inverter is built into its own enclosure at the rear of the motor, with no protruding elements and no cable between the two devices. The short connection also reduces electromagnetic compatibility problems.

The configuration is developed for axial fans, where every protrusion along the motor contour disturbs the airflow.

The PAD mounting design with four feet at 90 degrees further reduces aerodynamic losses and improves the efficiency of the whole system.

These applications run continuously and at variable speed. In such a duty cycle the difference in efficiency accumulates over the entire service life.

What IES2 means

IES2 is the energy efficiency class of the complete drive system - motor together with the variable frequency drive - according to IEC 61800-9-2. The classes are IES0, IES1 and IES2, where IES2 means losses at least 20% below the reference value.

The difference from the familiar IE classes is substantial. IE classes describe the motor only, while IES accounts for the actual consumption of the system, including the losses in the drive.

For HPAX 112 1500 47 - 2.2 kW at 1500 min⁻¹ - the motor efficiency is 90.2%, while the whole system with the integrated drive reaches 87.8%. The drive therefore costs less than 2.5 percentage points.

In variable speed applications it is the system efficiency that determines the electricity consumption.
